POSITION SUMMARY

We are on the search for an Operations Officer for the market events organised by Craft Markets Australia (CMA). Our markets are held on weekends and located in 8 locations across Victoria.


The Operations Officer is responsible for the set up of equipment (bump in/out) and the OH&S requirements of each market day. The Operations Officer is also responsible for preparing the equipment and market vehicles from the factory in Mornington in the lead up to each market day.


This role will report directly to the Event Operations Manager on weekends and the Office manager during the week.

 

To be successful in this role, ideally you will have some experience in event operations and the knowledge of the OH&S requirements to run events. You are a team player who enjoys working in a close-knit team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Includes but not limited to:

  • Load up the company vehicles and ensure they are ready to go with required equipment and fuel in the lead up to the market. Drive mid-size transit vehicle and/or small truck from Mornington to the market on the market day.

  • Assist onsite when needed to mark out the layout of a market during the week prior.

  • Ensure venues are unlocked prior to stallholder arrival and secured after bump out is complete.

  • Set up and pack down all event equipment including marquees, power boxes, banners, signage and tables & chairs.

  • Ensure the market is safe and operational for both stallholders and patrons.

  • Conduct stallholder power and gas safety audits (training provided)

  • Assist the Event Operations Manager when required to implement Emergency Management Plans

  • Ensure market stakeholders adhere to OH&S standards and any risks reported to the Event Operations Manager

  • Ensure the market and vehicles are packed up correctly at the end of each market and then return the vehicles to the factory in Mornington. 

  • Attend multiple event sites across different locations throughout the year - including Red Hill, Portsea, Hanging Rock, Mornington, Knox, Yarra Glen, and Mount Martha. Other locations may be added throughout the year.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Ideally

  • Some experience in Event Operations and in delivering OH&S requirements at events.

  • A basic understanding of OH&S Procedures

  • Driver’s licence and the ability to drive a mid-size transit vehicle and/or small truck (no special licence required).

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. 

  • Experience liaising with multiple internal and external stakeholder’s e.g. stallholders, market patrons and third-party suppliers.

  • The ability to hit the ground running and ability to prioritise tasks and problem solve.

Desirable

  • Some knowledge of power and gas requirements to run a market.(training provided)

  • Some experience in events or in an environment where OH & S are recognised and implemented

  • An interest in the market industry and respect for the workmanship that goes into the home grown, home-made products that are on offer. 

This role includes weekend hours along with early starts and the occasional long day,

from bump in to bump out of markets. Some flexible weekdays are also required to prepare for markets from our factory in Mornington.
