We are on the search for an Operations Officer for the market events organised by Craft Markets Australia (CMA). Our markets are held on weekends and located in 10 locations across Victoria.

The Operations Officer is responsible for the set up (bump in/out) and the OH&S requirements of each market day. The Operations Officer is also responsible for preparing the equipment and market vehicles from the factory in Mornington in the lead up to each market day.

This role will report directly to the Event Operations Manager and will be part of a casual pool of staff.
To be successful in this role, you must have experience in event operations and the knowledge of the OH&S requirements to run events. You are a team player who enjoys working in a close-knit team.


Includes but not limited to:


  • Load up the vehicles and ensure they are ready to go with required equipment and fuel in the lead up to the market. 

  • Mark out the layout of the market in the lead up to the market day.

  • Drive mid-size transit vehicle and/or small truck from Mornington to the market on the market day.

  • Ensure venues are unlocked prior to stallholder arrival and secured after bump out is complete. 

  • Set up and pack down all event equipment including marquees, power boxes, banners, signage and tables & chairs.

  • Ensure the market is safe and operational for both stallholders and patrons.

  • Conduct stallholder power and gas safety audits.

  • Act as Event Staff, when required, and implement Emergency Management Plans as directed by the Chief Warden.

  • Ensure market stakeholders adhere to OH&S standards and any risks are mitigated and reported to the Event Operations Manager

  • Implement COVIDSafe strategies as directed by the Event Operations Manager

  • Ensure the market and vehicles are packed up correctly at the end of each market and then return the vehicles to the factory in Mornington. 

  • Attend multiple event sites across different locations throughout the year - including Red Hill, Portsea, Hanging Rock, Mornington, Yarra Glen, Daylesford, Sorrento, Flemington and Mount Martha. Other locations may be added throughout the year.



  • Experience in Event Operations. 

  • Experience in delivering OH&S requirements at events.

  • Detailed understanding of OH&S Procedures and event industry standards.

  • Driver’s licence and the ability to drive a mid-size transit vehicle and/or small truck (no special licence required).

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. 

  • Experience liaising with multiple internal and external stakeholders e.g., stallholders, market patrons and third-party suppliers.

  • The ability to hit the ground running.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks and problem solve.


  • Experience in implementing COVIDSafe strategies at events.

  • Knowledge of power and gas requirements to run a market.

  • Experience as Event Staff.

  • A knowledge of the market and/or events industry.


  • Be physically fit in order to set up and pack down markets.

  • Excellent time management skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.

  • Have a positive, can-do attitude, sense of humour and strong work ethic.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Available some weekdays to prepare for the market from our Mornington factory.

  • Is fine with weekend work, early starts and the occasional long day.

  • Excited to be actively part of a small team

  • Ability to use initiative and suggest changes, where required.

  • An interest in the market industry and respect for the workmanship that goes into the home grown, home-made products that are on offer. 

This role includes weekend hours, from bump in to bump out of markets. Some flexible week days are also required as well to prepare for markets from our factory in Mornington. Due to COVID-19, markets may be changed or cancelled at late notice and work is not always guaranteed.
